I'd say you have to be part of the culture to be a gamer. It's like being a fan of something. You can like it a whole lot, but a fan gobbles up all the promo art, music samples, interviews, etc (depending on the medium).
That's just my opinion, though. I won't pretend to be an expert.
i don't know it would depend on how serious you were about the games you're playing. if you play everyday but just as filler till you do something you have planned, then no. however if you're serious about leveling up and completing whatever game you're playing then you are a gamer whether you play everyday or not
More of a frame of mind. If you're a GAMER you know. Even if you work too much to play often but know you're a gamer. Or play a lot yet casually, and think you 'aren't'
No, because people who play games like Call of Duty for ten hours every evening is not a gamer. Someone who plays all the games from all the genres, looks at them all and judges them equally, AND is a master at most of them, is a gamer. Which is why I am not.
Coincidentally, I think people aren't gamers unless you complete a Final Fantasy. Because, dammit, those games require time, patience and skill. All that is is to be a gamer.
I think you need some variety to it. If you only play one type of game, not really. There's a difference between that and preferring certain types of games. I'll play just about anything, but I prefer RPGs and action/adventure.
It seems silly to me. It's like referring to myself as a reader because I read books or referring to someone who watches TV regularly as a watcher or something. To me video games are another way to entertain myself, why would that need a label?
