First: VERY impressive face. very painterly, a lot of subtle color, love the purple on his chick, the little orange on the nose bridge, very nice indeed. The face is probably the strongest point of the entire painting, as it should be. You come a long way from flat cell shading colors.
The diagonal composition is well planed out, especially the background, very solid, simple but mysterious.
The biggest problem of this painting is the foreground wood panel. It's so smooth, so perfect, feels like completely out of place, and because it's the foreground, it forces the viewer to look at it, but doesn't offer anything interesting to look at. The first thing I see is, of course, the impressive face. After that, my eyes jump to the wood panel, and....eh.....what the hell is that?! you running out of time or patience or something?! LOL~ seriously, that flat wood panel just bothers me to no end. and those very nicely rendered fingers doesn't help either.
I feel that everything flashy are good, the clothing, the wood panel, not as good. I don't know if you want to keep working on it, but if you do, I'd say keep working on that wood door/panel, give it more texture, more color, something interesting to look at, maybe some scratch marks. Give me something to look at after I'm done admiring that scary face~
