Edit: I always saw Scyther as a very dinosaur/dragon looking critter with some bug parts. It has come to my attention that others did not see it this way, they saw him as more of bug. This is my interpretation. If you want him more insect-like, you're more than welcome to draw him that way
Always thought Scyther was pretty sweet. Always wished he was actually a better pokemon. This is the Scyther I always wanted. You can see the entire process recording over at My Livestream Channel
I love the dinosaur version of him! For some reason, I always thought his head looked kind of canine. Now that I think about it more, it does look reptilian...
I'm just surprised he's not Bug-like at all. I can imagine a lizard-like bug. But it's not like your Gengar thing. Bugs ARE real, no one would look at this and say "That's clearly a bug" and just be mistaken.
Removing the whole "Bug-type" argument, looking at Scyther objectively, there's certainly room for interpretation. Especially considering Scyther is given expressive eyes rather than the compound bug eye like other Bug Pokemon.
Still, it's a great piece of art and worth the praise it's getting.
See my comment in the Gengar post for other feedback for the divisiveness of your criticism.
TOTAL WIN
