This is a design sheet illustrating the dragon people race for the world of Arvalis. Tried to cover pretty much all of the bases for the species, even down to eye and skin color variations. If you want to design your own Ryu-Bæroc character, I don't really mind. I did this as part of my Advanced Perspective final. This species was created nearly a decade ago and now I've finally got a sweet design sheet. Oh and the female design is a nod to this old thing: [link]

they only have one bone for their "lower" wings ?no both radius and ulna? if so did you do this for some anatomical  purpose plz?
p.s the rib-clavicle is such a creative idea congrats on the whole design .

women don't have narrower hips than men. Also, stop drawing us with shaved pubic hair.

This is not a human woman, they have wider shoulders to help accommodate the wings.  Also, I can draw women with whatever style of pubic hair or lack there of that strikes my fancy for an illustration.

Great concept and design! I love how much thought and detail you put into this. However, I have a hard time getting over how crossed-eyed the male dragon looks..

To be one hundred percent honest...

I'm not so much wanting to make a Ryu-Bæroc character... as I want to make an entire culture based off of them, possibly a whole fantasy world. They seem like...

They seem like something that would, theoretically, fill a familiar niche in a fantasy world, but turn that on it's head in new and interesting ways, with explanations for why they are the way they are being readily apparent...

And I would replace those ear bones with cartilage, because they would break very easily in any daily situation. Especially while birth they would give hell a lot of trouble.

I really like the whole concept of this race, but I think they would need some sort of skin on their tail in order to steer, be stable and choose direction during flight.

Nah, fantasy dragon people are completely unrealistic as is, may as well make them look cool and not get hung up too much on "realism".

Wow I can't even begin to express how amazing this is <3
I've always tried imagining the actual skeleton and such when designing my own species but haha this just shows how much more you could go with it *^*

Oh this is really stunning <3
You have a truly amazing gallery and I'm looking forward to seeing so much more :'D

I hope I can learn to invest that much time into things like this in the future <3
Thank you for being such a great inspiration to people :'D

You just solved my secondary wing and arm problem with the detailed skeleton, I could not brain out how a human could support a second pair of limbs without a second collar bone, but if you have strong enough muscles, they BAM. Thanks :)

Wonderful work on the anatomy and everything! Clever designs.... and the way they keep their wings folded is very unusual and interesting. Your work on the musculature and skeletal systems is brilliant. Only one thing really popped out at me in the workings of the wings if these guys are flighted, but it's really nothing compared to the overall thought that went into these designs. I hope you got a good grade!

Those wings are not really that unusual, take a look at real bats sometime. Their wings fold completely in, as so birds and bugs. All animals with wings can fold them in tight to their body to make them smaller and able to fit into more spaces.

I'm familiar with the function of folding wings - what I meant was, it's an interesting twist to have the characters hold them "upside down" per se, with the wrist joints facing the ground and the elbows up, if you know what I mean. XD I don't think I've seen that done in bipedal characters, so it's a good thing. The detail I was referring to is the choice of having the inner membranes of the wings supported by a thinly-muscled "finger" where it would usually attach to the body in a wide web. Again, quite an original solution to allowing the wing membranes to fold up and hide completely. :) My concern was that this anatomical feature would make it hard to hold air under the largest wing surface during flight, since the musculature of that digit does not seem sufficient to bear that degree of weight. Though I think I read somewhere in one of your other deviations that this species doesn't generally use powered flight, but instead glides, so that answers my question I suppose. And again, it's a fantasy setting and a fantasy species, so whatever mechanism you'd like works fine. If the visual appeal of hiding the majority of the membranes while not in use is more important than being totally "realistic", then so be it! XD Artistic liberty.

I was already impressed at your other beautiful and extremely creative species creations, but this... at the sight of your work here on anatomy; the musculature, the skeleton, to show how thoroughly you've considered these creatures' design... my mind is a little blown right now.
I'll have you know you've just inspired me a great deal re my own character/species design work. Thank you, you're insanely talented, I hope you never stop making art!

Dude you should note me when you finish it. :3 I would love to play it. If the characters were like your species, that would just be an awesome kind of game play. Question, what kind of game will it be? Oh, what kind of console will it be on? Or will it be a PC game? Whatever it is you should note me and tell me. :D

OMG, I'm sorry I really rambled on there. ^_^; It's just, your designs are perfection, the musculature and the skeletal structure are both absolutely beautiful, the way that the wings fold and hide like that is just ingenious. I love the 'realism' behind every little detail. Truly a work of true art my friend.
And again, you should message me about your game. I would love to try it. :3

First I think these look great . But on tech level I think they are very wrong " can fantasy really be wrong though ? " I think the muscles for their wings would be much bigger , the chest muscles that pull down the wings and therefore bring them and hold them in the air , bigger and those in the arms and legs in particular would be much thinner . Also you could figure on them having huge lungs too . They would be build much like upside down pyramids . The "out" of course is to say they fly with magic . Regardless great stuff .

All of this I'm aware of, the only issue is onc to start doing stuff to make it for realistic and feseable, they almost entirely look their human shape. As cool looking as a more bird or bat like humanoid would be, it's really hard for a regular person to identify with it. This was an exercise in showing the anatomy to connect wings to a person. There is a certain line that once you cross, it becomes a monster and no longer a relatable character.
