Sorry for the long absence here, been doing a lot of commissions and other stuff I cannot talk about. Enjoy this quick sketch of Realistic Mega Charizard. I lost my shit when I saw him, super cool. To answer a few questions: Yes, I have a plan for what mega evolution is in my take on the Pokemon world, but I will reveal it later. Yes, I like mega evolutions. Yes, there is more new Pokemon art coming soon. The mega Pokemon I most want to see are MegaMeganium and MegaYanmega if only because of their names.
I don't know if this is what you'll go for, but they could be mutated forms of the original that use the mutations to their advantage. For example: mega charizard y uses the small fins on its arms to be more aerodynamic as the original is quite 'podgy.' Once exposed to unique stones, a trainer can accelerate the mutation process.
I think the designs of the mega evolutions are probably the most pleasing part of X and Y even though I don't know why it was a necessary mechanic I think they should start making other spin offs like mystery dungeon and pokepark or another Colosseum/XD Gale of Darkness again or at least more frequent. Mega Charizard X looks good, I think my favorite is Mega Kangaskhan and Aggron. I'm still very hurt seeing the start evolution finals though be interesting to see your interpretations of them in the future.
Yeah, but a quad weakness to stealth rock, among a weakness to common attacking types like water and electric really drag it down. If it was part dragon, rock would only do 2x damage, and water and electricity would do normal.
So I just wanted to pop in and say that you've inspired me to attempt to make one of these pages of realistic Pokemon to the best of my ability. Probably won't be as FANTASTIC as yours, but I'm gonna try. I'll do buttloads of research and stuff and then get tired and draw a bunch of dinosaurs
This picture inspired/forced me to think up a real-world evolution and Mega Evolution theory, and I gotta write it down before I forget:
If Pokemon were real, I'd imagine during normal evolution, a Pokemon would undergo hundreds of thousands of years worth of chemical and physical change, and - depending on the pokemon and how intensely it was trained and raised - evolution would be a process that would take anywhere between a few days up to a month, tops. This period of accelerated growth would probably put a lot of stress on a pokemon's body and it probably would not be considered wise to have a pokemon battle or do anything exerting while it is evolving.
Evolution and growth/maturity aren't the same thing for Pokemon. Any pokemon can live out its entire life and never evolve, and for pokemon only kept as pets this would be typical. Wild Pokemon don't evolve nearly as quickly as trained Pokemon do, and even then, they only evolve if or when their ecosystem allows it; factors contributing to why it is relatively rare to see fully evolved Pokemon in the wild. How long it takes to initiate the evolution process, and how much time a Pokemon spends evolving all depends on how the Pokemon was raised and how intensely it was trained. For example, on average, it might take a wild cyndaquil a full month, give or take, to completely finish evolving into a quilava once the evolution process initiates. For a casually trained cyndaquil it might take half that time, and for a competitively trained cyndaquil it might only take a week or just a few days.
Mega Evolution, however, i imagine would be an instantaneous thing - not unlike an adrenaline boost; except that when Mega evolution is activated, a Pokemon would undergo a few thousand years worth of change in just a few short seconds. This is a process that must be extremely painful, but extremely rewarding as the Pokemon grows new bones, muscles, ligaments, etc. that it didn't have before. Like an adrenaline boost, I'd imagine Mega evolution only lasts for relatively a short period, and is probably physically exhausting for the pokemon when it is over.
Sorry for the text wall, but I had to write that down. I don't actually expect anybody to read this.
