I used lion sora and redXIII as reference for wolf link. This is why i have him hyper stylized with strange proportions and the tattoo on his shoulder. I tried adding more to midna, but zippers and belts just ruined her elegance. I wanted to make wolf link look a lot more complex too, but i had to keep it simple as per the reference of lion sora and redXIII. Hope you guys like it more now that all the patterns are applied.
I really like the fact that you went out side the normal human drawings and tried out an animal with this same Kingdom Hearts type style.
Lets start with Midna. I think she looks great over all. her already abnormal anatomy is fine and the detail on the helmet is great. One thing that REALLY bothers me is the lack of light that she is giving off. in the Zelda game she almost seems to glow and here she looks so...... so flat Maybe playing up the contrast in the hair or giving it more texture would make it look less like a flat gradient. :\
Now with Link Wolf - I agree with others when they say the pose looks forced. I think you should pay a little more attention to the paws in this one because for 1 there are no shoes to make jumbo size so enhance the paws xD and for 2 all the paws are at the same angel and is a little boring to the viewer. having the paws at a dramatic angle would make the pose seem more natural to the character. Also the same goes here that I said about midna. more strokes or details in the fur would help lift the image off the page and become less gradient-like. especially in the tail. The fur also seems choppy. not sure exactly how to explain it but uh I guess what I mean is it looks like you made JUST the head and tail green and filled the rest in with gray with no transition.
I feel like a big meany right now xD but there are a lot of things in this picture I really love! the way you imply different styles from characters like Nanaki's tattoos was a great idea. The ones here look great and give it a nice touch. adding more could be interesting too maybe I also really love the face. The eyes are bold and really stand out. Oh I am glad you decided to give him claws after all
Before I say anything else, I have to say that this: you obviously put a lot of thought into the characters, and that you did a good job referencing the source material. You also had solid coloring and and neat and clean lineart. That being said, I also feel like this is one of your weaker Kingdom-Hearts conversions, and here's why:
First, I feel like this piece does not have the essence of Kingdom-Hearts. When I look at this, I see wonderful fanart brilliantly rendered, but not the Kingdom-Hearts-esque characters that you were hoping to convey. Especially Midna. I am not very familiar with Twilight Princess, and to me, she just looks like how she's supposed to look--I don't see any real difference in style.
And I know you wanted to keep the characters simple. But Kingdom Hearts isn't only baggy-clothes and zippers! If anything, this is more-or-less cool fanart of Wolf-Link carrying a Final-Fantasy-bandaged-sword.
Second, I feel like the actual drawing technique is a little weak in comparison to your other KH-conversions. Don't get me wrong, it's very, very good! But I dunno--it feels like it's missing the ease; the fun; and most importantly the lunacy that your other pieces had.
By lunacy I mean the impossibility that these characters would ever appear in Kingdom Hearts. Your previous conversions pushed the characters, pushed the style, pushed everything's limit; and the result was this zany, over-the-top fun. This piece just feels so technical. You're not pushing the lunacy of Kingdom Heart's style onto these characters. It's like a Ferrari compared to a Lamborghini. Do you get what I mean?
Like, although the characters are very stylized, their poses are also very stiff...er... no, that's the wrong word... Their poses seem forced,.... if you get what I'm meaning.
The drama of the coloring is gone, too. Sure the actual, technical, official Kingdom Hearts art has minimal shading. But that's official art! You should push it here!
Right now, this piece is "meh." I showed it to my brothers and they agreed. One of them summed it up the best: "It's drawn really good, but it's nothing special."
...And I know you're good enough to make this special!
mastersword:UGH >_< gross...in TLOZ S.S THE MASTER SWORD IS ALIVE but when you beat the game *trying to be un spoiling as possiable* the master sword goes into an eternal slumber so thats why it doesnt talk to the future links.
I just took a look at all of your KH conversions, and I have to say.... AWESOME WORK!!!! I loved all of them!! They were all very well done, and the amount of detail and effort you put into them shows!! Major kudos to you, Arvalis!!!
the blade reminds me of that keyblade you get when you beat sepihroth *cuz of the wrapping* imagine if sora bumped into link that would be epic times 10 if only link look like that in his game its again epic times ten
It would be cool if you made a Nero to go along with Dante and Vergil.... The 3 of them could be in olympus colosium training to be heros and Vergil just gets sick and tired of being told what to do and joins up with Malificent... Then Sora or Riku try to beat him and end up failing and Dante has to come save their butts and you could get a keyblade based on force edge (in my opinion looks like yamato and rebellion fused)..... im going to go write that in a fan fiction
