This was part of my homework for Clothed Figure drawing 1, which i got an A- minus on. We had to design a character and such, so i did this. I was looking through my monster hunter artbooks and since the new one is coming out today i was feeling very monster hunter inspired when i did this. I had never seen a fishing pole as a weapon before, so i thought i might give it a shot. He swings his pole like a sword and the line is used as a whip weapon, hence the thick black line. All drawn in pencil, tones added in photoshop.
As a fisherman I can tell you that a fishing pole would make a HORRIBLE weapon. On the other hand, this is an awesome concept regardless! Man, would I love to see this guy in action. I can also see the Monster Hunter inspiration here - great work! Definitely deserved an A.
In the world of monster hunter everything is designed to be over the top and overkill. so assuming that fishing pole its made of solid steal therefore could be used to bash in skulls
OMG that's so true... Didn't think about that! Does sound like the kind of thing they'd make a weapon in MonHun! I mean you can hit people with a hunting horn, so why not? lmao
I absolutely love the design of this one! As something on the side I was writing a story with a fisherman/warrior in mind as one protagonist and I think this is the inspiration and reference I was looking for! Once again great work
Nice picture. When I saw the title, it got me thinking of Kozure Okami, where a there was a samurai who wields a fishing pole in a similar manner as you've described.
