EDIT My Charizards do not normally rear fully upright like this. There head is usually held lower and as such are measured at the shoulder, making them 5'7". The trainer is around 6' or so.
Though Bulbasaur has always been my favorite Pokemon, Charizard has always been my favorite fully evolved starter. I even had a Charizard Pokemon card back when that was a big deal. I wanted to make sure he looked reptilian not saurischian, so I pulled design elements exclusively from reptiles. You guys should definitely check out a Kaprosuchus, it certainly wouldn't be a boar. I also made sure to add little wing nubs on the pre-evs so that its not as jarring a transition. As Charizards get older, more or their tail envelops in flame. When a Charizard reaches an old enough age it will completely ignite and burn itself to ash. There are responsible for the occasional brush fire.
I'd also like to state that like the Monstrous Nightmare from HTTYD, why not have the Char family have fire proof scales yet secrete a flammable coating so that while their tail is lit they won't have to deal with the after burn. I'd also like to make note that I love how you have thought out how to bring to life Pokemon in a realistic manner
you do know that Dragons could have been dinosaurs, and as studies show there are several ways for an animal to created flames, though most that actually do it are either reptile or insectoid in nature(such as the Spitting Cobra's ability to eject it's venom straight out of its mouth and the Bombardier Beetle's ability to create a natural flashbang-like chemistry in it's own body are just two ways of showing the possibility of a dinosaur that predated flying birds of prey having a venom sac full of flammable liquid or gas that could ignite from either contact with air or another substance or through a electric pulse similar to a electric eel's ability to send out a pulse of bio-electricity to paralyze its prey.) it would make Dragon types such as Reshiram and Charizard(cause we all know he is a Dragon type under his Fire/Flying type match-up, the very basis of a the Welsh Red Wyvern that once adorned a flag.) quite possible while still being believable.
again amazing work!! XD
i wish i could draw like that
Doesn't look like it'd be big enough to hold me, but that's a minor detail.
