-Bulbasaur- by arvalis -Bulbasaur- by arvalis

Bulbasaur is my favorite Pokemon, Venusaur is not as cool. It really bothers me whenever I see a more realistic take on the Bulbasaur line as a frogs. I dont care for frogs, and I really like Bulbasaur, so therefore he isn't a frog. Not to mention he has "saur" in his name, which means lizard. I really ran with the lizard idea and he ended up like a cross between a Horny Toad and a Scutosaurus. The way I figure it is that they have an endosymbiotic relationship with a very large type of flower. The flower reeks of death, the fumes can even be toxic and keeps large predators and competition away; however it attracts insects which brings food for the young Bulbasaurs. Venusaur is 6'7", though are actually taller as their flowers can vary in height and are not measured. They also use their tusks to dig up roots much like wild boar. Bulbasaur is the best.

Wow! Bulbasaur was the first pokemon I knew and he will always be my favourite!! :)

Rhyhorn was the first pokemon ever created, even before the term ' Pokemon ' was made.
sackywack2141 Featured By Owner Edited Oct 29, 2015  New Deviant
I'm saying Bulbasaur was the first one I know. Because It was recently when someone told me about Pokemon when I never knew about it and then he talked about Bulbasaur so that makes it the first on I know and I didn't know Rhyhorn until I went in a cave, and don't expect me to know a lot about Pokemon.

Plus Pikachu was my second I knew.

Love Bulbasaur! (Favorite evolutionary pokemon) He's actually based off a lizard :D

Probably for the best that you didn't go the frog route. Though that would explain the resistance to Water. That is about only amphibious trait that the whole Venusaur line has anyways.

It looks awesome. But isnt the title supposed to be "Venasour"? Because it the other pictures f yours are named by the final forms.

Now, if Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur actually looked like this in the game, I would certainly prefer picking them as a starter.

I'm actually starting my own Bulbasaur line, including the new mega evolution. I agree in the fact that the frog reality makes no sense, so I looked through dinosaurs, and instantly found a group that works well with them in my eye.

I like the idea of going more lizard than amphibian (frog gecko). My main issue with the whole the plant being a seperate organism with a symbiotic relationship with the Bulbasaur is the explination of the attacks? is the plant sentient and can use vines as a weapon. or does the bulbasaur have while like tendrils that look like vines that he/she uses... your thoughts?

This series of drawings is absolutely breathtaking. There's so much creativity and originality in each piece. You have created many a masterpiece, and have earned more than a little respect from me for it.

Wow! I love your design for the Venusaur family's skin. ^_^ The Nincada looks great as well. Those Ninjask look pretty menacing with their red eyes!

I'm so glad that you didn't depict the Bulbasaur line as frogs... This concept is GREAT
Aww bulbasaur. xD
I like the  Horned lizard concept ... it fits really well. This is a great design.B-) (Cool)
Otakukiller Featured By Owner Dec 25, 2014  Student Writer
My idea for Bulbasaur's line is a race of turtles that have a symbiotic relationship with a plant. Their shells grow with a hole in the middle and when they are born, their parents push dirt into the hole and a plant seed is dropped into it. It spreads its roots through bulbasaur's body, with the Bulbasaur carrying the plant around while the plant protects bulbasaur and provides it with energy when it is low
draupnir45 Featured By Owner Dec 23, 2014
Actually, Bulbasaur's Japanese name is フシギダネ, which means "Weird Seed". So, I think there is no intention to make it look like a lizard in the first design concept...
GREAT work, Anyways.
