Bulbasaur is my favorite Pokemon, Venusaur is not as cool. It really bothers me whenever I see a more realistic take on the Bulbasaur line as a frogs. I dont care for frogs, and I really like Bulbasaur, so therefore he isn't a frog. Not to mention he has "saur" in his name, which means lizard. I really ran with the lizard idea and he ended up like a cross between a Horny Toad and a Scutosaurus. The way I figure it is that they have an endosymbiotic relationship with a very large type of flower. The flower reeks of death, the fumes can even be toxic and keeps large predators and competition away; however it attracts insects which brings food for the young Bulbasaurs. Venusaur is 6'7", though are actually taller as their flowers can vary in height and are not measured. They also use their tusks to dig up roots much like wild boar. Bulbasaur is the best.
My idea for Bulbasaur's line is a race of turtles that have a symbiotic relationship with a plant. Their shells grow with a hole in the middle and when they are born, their parents push dirt into the hole and a plant seed is dropped into it. It spreads its roots through bulbasaur's body, with the Bulbasaur carrying the plant around while the plant protects bulbasaur and provides it with energy when it is low
I love, love, LOVE the fact that you used Rafflesia as a base for the plant, I always thought of the plant on it's back as some sort of corpse flower and even the original artwork for Venusaur supports the Rafflesia specie of plant
This is probably my favorite one of the lot. Its blend of naturalistic anatomy with fantasy monster design is almost perfect. It is the golden standard to which the rest of this project should be held. I'm serious. This is better than a simple "Toad + plant" formula. It's a far more intricate blend of what the monster is intended to be, and what nature has given us. It is superb.
And the fact that I'm giving you positive critique here is proof positive that you will pretend I have said nothing and focus entirely on the fact that I don't the ones you didn't put any effort into.
I think Bulbasaur was the first pokemon I picked way back in the days when everything was displayed on a black and green screen. This is an amazing rendition and really brings the creature to life! Well done!
